Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between mean, median and mode?+
The mean is the sum of all values divided by how many there are. The median is the middle value once the numbers are sorted (or the average of the two middle values for an even count). The mode is the value or values that appear most often.
What happens if there is no mode?+
If every value appears exactly once, or all values appear the same number of times, there is no single most-frequent value, and the calculator states clearly that no mode exists rather than guessing.
What if multiple values are tied for the mode?+
All of the tied values are shown together as the mode, since a data set can legitimately be multimodal.
How does the weighted average work?+
Each value is multiplied by its weight, those products are summed, and the total is divided by the sum of the weights — rather than treating every value as equally important, as a plain mean does.
What separators can I use to enter numbers?+
Commas, spaces and new lines all work, and can be mixed freely in the same list.
What happens if I type something that isn't a number?+
Non-numeric entries are skipped and the calculator tells you how many were ignored, rather than breaking the whole calculation or showing an error result.
Does this tool store the numbers I enter?+
